Baby Grand Pianos::
The pedals, lid and music holder will need to be removed first. The top of the piano is then furniture padded, cardboard and shrink wrapped. After this is done, the front left leg is removed and the piano is tilted onto its side and strapped to a piano board. Then the other two legs are removed and all wrapped in furniture pads.
Upright Pianos:
Upright pianos do not come apart so they are typically the more difficult piano to move. The piano is wrapped in furniture pads then carried by 2-4 guys depending on the circumstances.
Safes:
Safes can also be a challenge to move. Sometimes the door will come off which will take off 100-200lbs and make it easier to move but not all the time. If they don’t come off, you are stuck with 100% of the weight. Safes above 500lbs will require a special dolly called a stevedore. These dolly’s have a higher weight rating than most furniture dolly’s and typically have straps to hold the safe on the dolly. These dolly’s can also be used to move heavy appliances like refrigerators and stoves.
